HHRA Additional July Update

Haven Visitor Centre. We are glad to report that Pamela will be speaking on Express FM at about 8.10pm tonight – the presenter has been a consistent supporter and very helpful publicist.

Fareham BC Budget. Members will be aware from Councillor Steve Dugan's brief at our last Members' Meeting that FBC is considering a very wide range of options for cuts/rationalisations/income generation in order to make up a predicted budget shortfall. One idea is parking charges at Stubbington Green. Our own and Stubbington's councillors have assured us that it is merely part of a long list however remotely viable; we know that they would fight such an idea tooth and nail.

Consultation - Proposed Search and Rescue Training Centre at Daedalus. A public exhibition will be held at Fareham Innovation Centre (at Daedalus) on Weds 12 July from 2.30 to 7.30 pm. Or leave views by 19 July - https://gillingsplanning.co.uk/bristow/ .

Consultation - Proposed Closure of Train Ticket Offices. Not of course FBC but the Council would like to have our views - https://www.fareham.gov.uk/have_your_say/consultation.aspx Closes 26 July.

Kitesurfers. We reported in the earlier July Update about kite surfers who had been surfing fast and very close to the shore at Cliff Road beach huts, amongst children, swimmers and paddle boarders; when approached, they were dismissive and aggressive. As reported, the Council will put an additional Priority Swimming Area notice at Giblet Ore (the slope to the beach below Old Street); as one of our members commented, the information boards which used to be at strategic points showing the advised ‘beach uses’ were very helpful and we would very much like to see their return. The police have now logged the 25 June episode as a report of anti social behaviour and ask that any future event is reported on 101 or via www.hampshire.police.uk. The King’s Harbour Master also advised getting as much detailed description as possible of the individuals involved in any future episode, and their kite.

Scams. Again - Your MCAFEE account has expired. Activate now ....

Memory Group. You will recall that at our last Members' meeting one of the presenters, Petta Dilloway, talked about the Fareham Community Hospital Memory Group. The contact details for her are 01489 584086: do ring if you think that you or a family member might benefit from attending this informal group, run by the Friends of Fareham Community Hospital at the British Legion hall. As well as social activities, the group has input from professionals from the Alzheimers Society etc.

Daedalus. Just to clarify, in our last Update the report on the recent CAT meeting reported Cllr Woodward saying that Daedalus is a net income generator for FBC. We received a query saying that Solent Airport does not make a profit. In common with many local airfields, indeed on its own it does not, but the item was about Daedalus as a whole.
