Closure of Meon Road
It seems that Meon Road may be closed again for one day on Wednesday 28 January. Keep an eye open for signs.
Live Longer Better classes
Fareham have reminded us that the Live Longer Better classes have been taking place for 7 months and have been very well received by those attending them. Following grant funding from Hampshire County Council last year, Fareham Borough Council teamed up with Everyone Active to offer those aged over 55 the chance to experience a range of physical activity sessions in community locations across the borough.
Classes are £5 per session and have been arranged to take place in the heart of communities that are currently lacking these opportunities, to make them as accessible as possible. Classes on offer are:
Seated yoga - Wednesdays at 12.30pm at the Sarisbury Green Social Club in Park Gate
Falls prevention - Wednesdays at 1:30pm at Broadlaw Community Centre in the Fort Fareham Ward
Low impact dance - Thursdays at 10.45am at Hill Park WI in Fareham Park
To sign up, please contact Everyone Active on 01329 233652, or visit Holly Hill or Fareham Leisure Centres.
An interesting experience
One of our members told me of an ‘interesting’ experience he had the other evening. His IT alert system showed that a man was settling down in the porch outside his front door: it was about 8pm and he was equipped with large amounts of cardboard and a sleeping bag. Our member rang the police on 101 who attended promptly and took the man – and his cardboard and sleeping bag – away. This is a reminder always to ring the police on either 999 for an emergency or 101 for something slightly less urgent: it is never a waste of time.
Hampshire Alert
You may find the latest Crime Prevention Bulletin of interest. I had not seen the HCC Driver Skills 60+ scheme before: this is a free, 90 minute assessment of the driving skills of older drivers, with a confidential report at the conclusion. (I have made a mental note to self….)
Consultation by FBC on budget for the coming year
Fareham are inviting comments on the decisions they must make regarding the coming year’s budget. It is open until 9 February:
Local elections
It has now been confirmed that elections will be held for Fareham and Hampshire councillors on 7 May 2026.
Members’ meetings for 2026
I am glad to report that we now have speakers for all three of our meetings in 2026:
· Monday 2 March 7.30pm AGM and Joanne Young, Chair of GAFIRS
· Monday 6 July 7pm Councillor Lulu Bowerman and colleagues, to describe the Great M27 Junction 10 Underpass Project (please note earlier starting time)
· Monday 5 October 7.30pm Paul Edwards, project manager for the Osborne View rebuild
