1. Bargate planning application for up to 62 houses on land west of Old Street P/24/1553/OA
Attached is a note from your committee which summarises the history to this application and sets out the issues which HHRA will include in comments to FBC in early January. For the rest of this month, we shall monitor the reports and comments posted on the website – including those from HHRA members and others – and will incorporate relevant additional points into our submission. We shall also be sure to make a personal deputation to the Planning Committee meeting (date not yet known). We will communicate about this once we know the date, as others of you may also wish to attend and possibly speak.
This Update and the attached note can be found on our website www.hhra.org.uk Latest News together with the planning inspector’s decision from January 2019.
Do feel free to share any of this information with family, friends and neighbours and encourage them to comment to FBC.
If you have already made comments, you are welcome to make a further submission – there is no limit on the number of times you can comment. We do not yet have a deadline, but would suggest making your comments by 31 December.
If you wish to draw on the attached comments from the committee, may we encourage you to do so in your own words, as ‘copying and pasting’ does not go down well when comments are being analysed for the committee!
Incidentally, we have noticed with interest in the ‘Statement of Community Involvement’ submitted by Bargate that they say ‘We found no relevant Residents Associations covering the Old Street area’. Really?? Allow us to assist…..
2. Osborne View P/25/1544/FP
Also attached are the comments which we shall be making to FBC on the Osborne View application. Again, they can be found on www.hhra.org.uk Latest News
We are very aware that aspects of the design have divided opinion and that is very much a case of what is ‘in the eye of the beholder’ and so we have concentrated our comments on practicalities of how the design will work and now the construction period and the pub will be managed. You will see that we put a number of questions to Hall & Woodhouse management and we have incorporated their responses into the attached comments.
As above, if our comments prompt any further thoughts you would like to submit, you can send in further comments to FBC.
3. Scams
Some things don’t change and we continue to hear from you about scams:
· Further versions of the apparent message from the DWP that in view of the cold weather you are welcome to apply for a £200 or £300 grant, with a very tight deadline. Please don’t.
· A horrid episode experienced by a woman in a car park – a man drew her attention to the fact that her car had been ‘keyed’ (ie scratched) and while she and he were examining it, one of his buddies stole her wallet from the front seat of the car.
· False Q codes continue to be stuck over the correct Q codes in car parks. The only advice we can give is use touch screen, PIN or cash payments, or do it by phone.
· We are not sure whether or not this was legitimate or a scam: two young men, apparently with appropriate uniforms and ID allegedly representing Macmillan Cancer Care were calling door to door. The worrying aspect is that they appeared to be inviting one of our members to provide their bank details which they could pass to their fundraisers. Definitely unwise – always contact any charity direct if you wish to donate.
· Theoretically coming from Microsoft but including a dubious email address microsoft-reply@orderteam0365.onmicrosoft.comand showing only dollar sums, seeking payment for Microsoft 365. If there is any possibility you might wish to do any such thing, contact Microsoft by a route known to you which you trust.
4. Future meetings
My continued apologies that I am not yet in a position to confirm meeting dates for 2025: the planning items included in this update have had to take priority.
Just to note: the responses you kindly made about a possible presentation from the Cyber Crime unit of the police were overwhelmingly in favour of an evening meeting. We shall try to make sure that relevant information can also be made available to those not able to get out in the evening and we will send out a date for the meeting as soon as possible.
