HHRA Update 16 March 2022

AGM We were delighted to welcome nearly 60 members to the AGM last week. We plan to hold the next meeting on Monday 13 June.

Titchfield Road - Night Closures. The road will be closed between A27 Titchfield Gyratory and the south side of the junction with the new bypass, from Mon 21 Mar to Fri 1 April between 8pm and 5am. Saturday and Sunday closures are not planned, although may have to be used in the event of delay. Limited pedestrian and cycle access will still be available under control.

Planned Stubbington Roundabout Changes. A decision has now been made in respect of changes to the two main roundabouts. This follows recent surveys of local opinion. Work will begin when the new bypass is fully open and planned to complete around the end of May. The intention is to encourage use of the bypass and discourage unnecessary through traffic from the village whilst retaining local access and encouraging walking and cycling in the village centre. Footways will be widened and crossing points repositioned/improved. Although both our County Councillor Pal Hayre and HHRA had urged delay until the effects of the new bypass were known, we believe that the earlier start may have been influenced by time-limited funding. We are relieved to see that the 2-lane entries from Stubbington Lane to Stubbington Green roundabout and from Gosport Road to Mays Lane roundabout will be retained following Cllr Hayre's and our representations.

Cost of Living event. Caroline Dinenage MP is to host an event when constituents who have concerns about the rising cost of living. Organisations including British Gas, banks and Citizens' Advice will be on hand to offer advice. Thee is no need to book, just drop in: Saturday 26 March from 10am to 12 noon at Gosport Discovery Centre, High Street Gosport PO12 1BT.

Southern Water Meeting. As we have mentioned in earlier Updates, Caroline Dinenage will host a second online meeting with senior representatives of Southern Water and the Environment Agency on Monday 28 March at 6pm. Register to take part at https://www.eventbrite.com/e/southern-water-public-meeting-tickets-265061655547 .

Gosport Bus Station. We understand that funding has now been secured from the Government's Brownfield Land Release fund (to attract developers who would otherwise be deterred by the cost of cleaning up previously built-on sites) for a complete rebuild of the whole Gosport bus station complex including that area of the waterfront. It could include shops, cafes, bars, housing and other facilities.

Scams. For the first time since commencing our Updates there seem to be no new scams to report. There are, however, plenty of old ones and they are being made more sophisticated and plausible. Scams on the themes of NHS, Covid passports, frozen bank accounts, internet telephone and internet service providers, Amazon and similar still abound. Be on your guard.
